为什么要学习food & dining 泰语?

Food is the fastest way to feel at home in Thailand, and the phrases in this deck are the ones you will use at every meal. Thai eating is social and shared — dishes arrive family-style at the centre of the table, and the script for ordering is the same whether you are at a street stall on Khao San Road, a riverside restaurant in Ayutthaya, or a mall food court in Siam Paragon. Servers in Thailand do not hover; they expect you to flag them down with a hand raised and a 'Khrap!' when you are ready. LangOria's food-phrase deck is built around the ten sentences that cover walking in, ordering, asking about spice, paying, and leaving. Each phrase is paired with audio shadowing and a culture tip on the spice scale, the sticky-rice etiquette, and why you should never pour your own drink. Thai food vocabulary is regional — what Isan calls 'som tam', the north calls its own, and the south has a curry grammar all to itself. But the ten phrases here work from Chiang Rai to Phuket. The vendor will not expect you to speak Thai; they will be delighted that you tried. Food Thai is the most rewarding ten minutes of any language course: you rehearse in the app, you use it for lunch, and the next morning the vendor remembers your order.

文化与礼仪

In Thailand, tipping is not expected but 20-40 baht is appreciated for good service; at street stalls, rounding up is enough. A 10% service charge is often added at hotel restaurants — check the bill. Spice levels are not optional: 'phet' means spicy, 'mai phet' means not spicy (but Thai 'not spicy' is still spicy); say 'mai phet nid noi' (not spicy at all) if you mean it, or 'phet nit noi' (a little spicy) if you are brave. Fork and spoon are the default utensils — the fork pushes food onto the spoon, which goes to the mouth; chopsticks are only for noodles. Sticky rice (khao niao) is eaten with the right hand in the north and Isan. 'Gin khao ryang?' (have you eaten yet?) is a greeting, not a question about hunger. Flag down the server with 'Khrap!' or 'Kha!' — no need to say 'excuse me'. 'chek bin duai khrap' asks for the bill. 'aroi' means delicious — complimenting the cook is warmly received. Remove shoes before entering some traditional restaurants. Never point your feet at anyone.

如何学习此情景

Spend two to three days on the food deck before any restaurant visit in Thailand. Drill the dialogue out loud with a partner or a recording; restaurant Thai is muscle memory, not grammar. On the day, walk in with a clear script: 'sawasdee khrap' → 'to song thi nang khrap' (table for two) → 'mai phet khrap' (not spicy) → 'chek bin duai khrap' → 'aroi mak khrap' (very delicious). The ten-minute daily loop is enough; food Thai is the most rewarding ten minutes of any course. Three concrete drills: (1) Pre-meal — open the deck and listen to the audio twice, then reproduce all ten sentences from memory; (2) Mid-meal — try one phrase you have not used, e.g. 'khao niao duai khrap' (sticky rice please) even if you are not sure what it is, to build confidence; (3) Post-meal — note the one phrase that surprised you (the spice scale? the utensil rules?) and add it to your spaced-repetition deck. By month one, handle a vendor's curveball without freezing.
