travel & transport 태국어을(를) 왜 배워야 하나요?

Travel Thai is the highest-leverage Thai you will ever learn. The same fifty phrases get you through Suvarnabhumi Airport, the hotel in Sukhumvit, the tuk-tuk in Chiang Mai, and the night ferry to Koh Phangan. Whether you are landing in Bangkok, taking the BTS across the city, or renting a scooter on Koh Samui, the practical Thai of travel is the same — and speaking even a few words of it transforms the way Thais treat you. Thailand runs on a culture of smiles and service, but the smiles widen measurably when a foreigner opens with 'Sawasdee khrap' instead of 'Hello.' LangOria's travel-phrase deck is built around the ten sentences you actually need at the airport, the hotel front desk, the train station, and the street corner where the GPS has failed you. Each phrase is paired with audio shadowing, an example dialogue, and a culture tip that tells you when to add 'khrap' (male speaker) or 'kha' (female speaker) for politeness. The same ten phrases get you through taxi rides, market haggling, pharmacy runs, and the small emergencies of being a stranger in a new city. A week of the ten-minute daily loop is enough to internalise them — and that single week pays off every trip to Thailand for the rest of your life.

문화 및 에티켓

In Thailand, every interaction opens with 'Sawasdee' accompanied by the wai — palms pressed together at chest height, head bowed slightly. The wai is returned; ignoring one is rude. Add 'khrap' if you are male, 'kha' if you are female, to every sentence for politeness. The royal family is deeply revered — never joke about the King, and stand still when the national anthem plays (twice a day on TV, in cinemas, and at 8am in public spaces). Tipping is not expected but appreciated: leave 20-40 baht for good service; bellhops expect 20 baht per bag. Taxi meters are mandatory in Bangkok — insist on 'meter du' (use the meter); a driver refusing is overcharging. The head is sacred (do not touch anyone's head); the feet are the lowest part of the body (do not point them at people or Buddha images). Remove shoes before entering homes and some shops. Public displays of affection are frowned upon. 'Mai phet' means 'not spicy' — but Thai 'not spicy' is still spicy by Western standards; say 'mai phet nid noi' (not spicy at all) if you mean it.

이 시나리오 학습 방법

Spend three to five days on the travel deck before any trip to Thailand. Review the ten phrases with spaced repetition until recall is automatic, then drill the example dialogue out loud with a partner or a recording. Thai is a tonal language — five tones change meaning — so shadow the audio closely, copying the rise and fall rather than translating. On the trip itself, use each phrase at least once in real life; Thais are encouraging of any attempt. The ten-minute daily loop is enough; travel Thai is a finite vocabulary you can master in a week. Three concrete drills: (1) Morning — shadow the audio for two minutes, focusing on the mid-tone and falling tone, which carry most travel words; (2) Midday — run the dialogue out loud, swapping in your hotel name and destination; (3) Evening — write one sentence you will say tomorrow (e.g. 'phom tongkan ao nam' — I would like water) and rehearse it twice before bed. By day seven, use them with a stranger without translating first.
